The Pilanesberg National Park is South Africa's fourth largest national park, covering an area of 55 000 ha. The Pilanesberg area is in fact the crater of a long extinct and eroded volcano, thought to have been formed 1 200 million years ago. It is home to Africa’s BIG FIVE (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhino) and more than 365 bird species.
